Gareth Walker named as Community Captain for Premier League More Than A Game initiative
FC Halifax Town has named Gareth Walker as their Premier League Community Captain in recognition of his commitment and contribution to the game and local community.
Over the next two weeks, the Premier League and clubs will be celebrating ‘More Than A Game’ and highlighting the positive impact of Premier League investment into communities and clubs at every level of football.
The Premier League is investing £1.6 billion into wider football and communities between 2022 and 2025 to support football at every level of the game across England and Wales. This world-leading funding into clubs, communities and facilities positively impacts and inspires millions of people.
As part of ‘More Than A Game’, the League will be celebrating more than 100 Community Captains – individuals nominated by Premier League, EFL and National League clubs for their contribution to their local community via programmes funded by the Premier League.
Gareth Walker has been chosen as FC Halifax Town’s 2025 Community Captain for his incredible commitment to the delivery of our community programme.
On receiving the award, Gareth Walker said: "I am delighted to have received this award and grateful to have been recognised. It’s a privilege to be part of the Club and supporting the growth of the Academy and Community coaching programme as well as matchday events. It means a lot to give something back to the community I grew up in and it has been great seeing young players having fun whilst developing their game as a result of the work the Club and Foundation does in the community.”
FC Halifax Town are proud to celebrate the achievements of our chosen Premier League Community Captain, Gareth Walker, recognising the instrumental role he plays in supporting the delivery of our coaching programme and matchday initiatives delivered by the Academy and Foundation.
Steve Nichol of FC Halifax Town said: “The commitment and efforts of Gareth for a number of years has been outstanding and played a major role in the development of our wider coaching programme for young players, he has also offered valuable assistance to the smooth running of matchday events such as supporting the ball boys or school half time fixtures. I hope this award offers some recognition and appreciation to his time, effort, and commitment. We would not have made the progress we have over recent years without his contribution.”
Premier League Director of Community Nick Perchard said: “It is so important that we continue to recognise and collectively highlight the positive impact that work within local communities has, championing those at the heart of Premier League-funded initiatives. Success on the pitch enables the Premier League to share unparallelled investment into communities and football at all levels across England and Wales.”
